These $9 Target Storage Bins Are So Good for Linen Closets | Apartment Therapy

Oct 14, 2024

After years of living in small apartments, having a true hallway linen closet has been a dream. Previously, I’d piled towels and sheets on the top shelves of clothing closets or stashed them under the bed. But now, I have four glorious shelves that I can use for linen storage, including bath towels, sheets, and even toiletries (okay, maybe my toiletries have more real estate in this closet than I’d like to admit).

However, it didn’t take me long to realize that linen closets’ fatal flaw is that linens are inherently disorganized piles. You can start with beautiful folded piles, only to find them falling into disarray within days. Fitted sheets may be hard to fold, but they’re even harder to keep stacked neatly.

I needed a solution quickly. One that would provide the perfectly organized storage I’d been dreaming of for years and let me easily access pillowcases and washcloths at a moment’s notice, with no digging or rearranging required.

To find the answer, I headed to the most obvious place — Target. I’ve dabbled in their Brightroom Y-weave line before, buying baskets to store under-the-sink cleaning products and out-of-sight bathroom items. But then, among the Y-weave products, I spotted the magic basket I needed for my linen closet organizing conundrum: the Y-weave Easy-Access Storage Bin.

While there are many plastic bins in the world, each designed to make closet organization easier, this one is different.

First, let’s talk about the Y-weave construction. I’ve often found that plastic storage bins get dirty easily and become nearly impossible to clean. Or perhaps they’re flimsy, easily cracking under the pressure of doing their job. But this Y-weave plastic is sturdy and the weave makes it slightly open. They don’t seem to accumulate dust in the same way that solid plastic bins do. And, thanks to the texture, these Y-weave bins look more high quality than similar options.

But enough about the construction, the real selling point of these storage bins is their open front. As soon as I saw them, I knew these baskets were the answer to keeping my linen closet organized.

I can stack towels or sheets inside them, and I don’t have to worry about emptying them each time I need to find something. I can easily access anything I’m looking for (hence that easy-access name). They’re even handy for my toiletries and hair supplies, which would be too short to find in a bin that has full-height sides. These easy-access bins give me a clear look into exactly what’s inside.

They’re such a game-changer that I actually bought six of them for my linen closet, and I would have bought more if they’d had them (and I would have hunted them down if I’d known Target was discontinuing this navy blue!).

Throughout the closet, I’ve paired them with other Y-weave baskets, including those that aren’t easy to access for smaller items. And, eight months later, I’m still opening up my linen closet each day, impressed that the organization system is still working — all thanks to those easy access $9 storage gems.Buy: Y-weave Easy-Access Storage Bin, $9
